This role supports one of Australia’s leading privately operated infrastructure organisations, with a strong presence across transport and rail operations. The organisation is known for delivering and managing complex, long‑term infrastructure assets and for its commercially focused, delivery‑driven culture.
The Opportunity
You will provide senior‑level legal support across complex rail operations and maintenance arrangements, with a strong focus on front‑end commercial contracting and negotiation. Working closely with commercial, operational and project teams, you will be actively involved in shaping contractual frameworks and supporting significant commercial negotiations for long‑term infrastructure contracts.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading negotiations on substantive commercial and risk terms
Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex commercial and infrastructure contracts
Providing strategic legal and commercial input into large‑scale contractual arrangements
Advising on risk allocation, liability frameworks and contract structures
Engaging directly with internal stakeholders and external counterparties
About You
You are a confident, senior lawyer who is comfortable leading negotiations and working directly on complex transactions. You bring a practical mindset and the ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes.
You will have:
Senior Associate-level experience (or equivalent) in commercial or transactional law
Demonstrated experience with major rail operations and maintenance contracts
Strong legal and commercial drafting skills
Proven experience negotiating complex contract terms
A background supporting infrastructure, transport or asset‑based projects
Availability to commit full-time to an initial 6‑month contract, with potential to extend
Victoria‑based candidates strongly preferred
