Exciting APS5 & APS6 Lawyer Opportunities (NV1 required)

Allygroup is seeking skilled Lawyers to join a high-profile Commonwealth Government agency’s Legal and Enforcement Branch. These roles offer an exciting opportunity to work on complex legal matters that directly contribute to safeguarding Australia’s financial system from criminal exploitation.

This role is a 12 month non-ongoing placement or section 26 transfer, available in Canberra, Sydney, or Melbourne. A NV1 security clearance is needed for this role. Full-time work is preferred; however, part-time and flexible arrangements will be considered.

About the Role

As part of a dynamic legal team, you will provide expert advice and support across a range of legal streams. Each team is led by an EL2 Director and includes lawyers at APS5 to EL1 levels, fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing.

You will have the opportunity to work on diverse and challenging matters, including:

  • Regulatory and Enforcement Support: Advising on compliance and enforcement issues under key legislation.

  • Corporate Legal Support: Providing advice on employment law, procurement, contracts, and commercial matters.

  • Policy and Law Reform: Contributing to policy development and legislative reform initiatives.

  • Privacy and FOI: Supporting privacy impact assessments and Freedom of Information requests.

  • Litigation Support: Assisting with enforcement-related litigation, including preparing affidavits and witness statements.

Areas of Expertise

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Enforcement-related issues and litigation

  • Statutory interpretation

  • Administrative law

  • Privacy, commercial, property, and employment law

What we’re looking for

  • Admission to practice law in Australia and eligibility to hold a practising certificate.

  • For APS5 roles: up to 2 years post-admission experience; APS6 roles: minimum 2 years post-admission experience.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical legal advice.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
