APS6/EL1 Senior Legal Officer (Litigation)

Allygroup has an exciting opportunity for a senior government lawyer to join a high-profile government agency in Canberra.

Candidates should be based in Canberra and available for either a full-time or part-time role. Remote working arrangements can be available for the right candidate.

A baseline security clearance is preferred, but not mandatory. Immediate availability to start is required.

Our ideal candidates:

  • APS6/EL1 equivalent level with a minimum of three years Post Admission Experience

  • Previous APS experience, including an understanding of obligations under the Legal Services Directions 2017

  • Experience or knowledge in handling complex and sensitive litigation matters.

Key duties include:

  • Managing a small but complex litigation caseload, including judicial review matters, class actions, and ATT cases.

  • Overseeing all steps in the litigation process, such as reviewing submissions, arranging witness affidavits, and assisting with discovery.

  • Ensuring the department continues to meet obligations under the Legal Services Directions.

  • Working with external law firms and Commonwealth agencies on litigation matters.

  • Provide regular briefing to internal clients, the Executive, and the Minister’s Office.

  • Managing subpoenas on behalf of the department.
