Senior Government Litigation Lawyer

Allygroup is seeking Senior Litigation Lawyers, from the APS6-EL2 level, for a secondment role within a federal government department. This is an exciting opportunity to support the important work of this department, making a meaningful impact to the lives of more than 600,000 Australians. You will work for an inclusive and diverse workplace and contribute to a high performing legal team within the Administrative Review Tribunal - Dispute Resolution and Litigation Branch.

This is a secondment opportunity, for a 6-month contract with the possibility of further extension. 

Successful candidates must be based on Sydney.     

We are seeking candidates with experience within, knowledge of and interest in: 

  • Administrative Appeals Tribunal (now the Administrative Review Tribunal)

  • Dispute Resolution and Litigation

Additionally, key duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Managing a range of matters from judicial review matters, through to class actions and AAT matters

  • Managing all steps in the litigation process, such as reviewing submissions, arranging witness affidavits, and assisting with discovery.

  • Ensuring the department continues to meet obligations under the LSDs.

  • Working with external law firms and across the Commonwealth on litigation matters.

  • Managing subpoenas on behalf of the department.

Detailed statements of work will be provided to suitable candidates. Other ‘ad hoc’ duties may also be required to meet business requirements.
