APS6-EL1 Government Lawyer (Litigation)

Allygroup is seeking an experienced Lawyer (5 years PAE minimum), with strong hands on litigation experience, to join the Litigation team of a key federal government agency. In this role, you will be an integral part of the Litigation team in the department's Legal Division, assisting in ensuring the team effectively manage their caseload. This role is a secondment opportunity, for an initial 3 to 6-month term with the possibility of further extension.

Successful candidates must be located in Canberra and must hold a Baseline security clearance.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing a range of matters from judicial review matters, through to class actions and AAT matters

  • Managing all steps in the litigation process, such as reviewing submissions, arranging witness affidavits, and assisting with discovery.

  • Ensuring the department continues to meet obligations under the LSDs.

  • Working with external law firms and across the Commonwealth on litigation matters.

  • Managing subpoenas on behalf of the department.

Key requirements:

  • Canberra based

  • Minimum baseline security clearance

  • Minimum 5 years PAE

  • Strong hands-on litigation experience
