Allygroup is seeking multiple Senior Commercial Lawyers to join a federal government agency for an initial 9-month term with two 12-month extension options. This role is ideal for senior lawyers who thrive in a collaborative and fast-paced environment and want to contribute to work of national significance.
Candidates must hold an NV1 security clearance (or higher) and be available to work on a full-time basis. This role is based in Canberra but applicants who are based in other states may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Key duties:
Review of, and advice on, RFT documents before they go to market
Review of, and advice on, addenda issued to the market during the RFT process
Ability to work together with the agency’s procurement and probity specialists to ensure a streamlined approach to the procurement
Review and advise on, high-value or high-risk contracts, or those with novel issues
Supporting contract negotiations, as required
Providing advice on a variety of commercial law issues, including potential contractual disputes
Reviewing, and drafting contract amendments
Assisting in template review and development, including for contracts, grants, whole of government agreements, international organisation or partner government agreements, and internal approval documentation
Liaise with the agency client groups and enabling areas as required
Ideal candidate:
Minimum 12 years PAE in commercial law
Minimum NV1 security clearance, NV2 preferred
Experience working within a Commonwealth agency is highly desirable or demonstrated the capacity to deliver in-house advice across a Commonwealth agency with diverse functions
A strong understanding of Commonwealth finance law, including the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act) and the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs) are highly desirable.
Experience advising on contracts for complex programs, especially in an overseas context, is an important attribute of the role
A track record of building positive relationships with a wide range of in-house clients and the capacity to translate complex legal issues into clear and practical advice
The candidate’s strong interpersonal skills will also contribute to a capability uplift in the agency’s procurement, agreement drafting and management
