Freedom of Information Officers (APS 4-5)

About the role

Allygroup is seeking highly motivated and experienced Freedom of Information Officers (APS4-5) for an initial 6-month contract with the possibility of extension, with our high-profile Federal Government client. Candidates may be based in Canberra, Sydney or Newcastle and be available to work full-time.  

Duties include:

  • supporting the Freedom of Information (FOI) and Privacy function of the agency by receiving, assessing, and processing requests in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 1982, the Privacy Act 1988 (in particular IPP 12), and the Archives Act 1983 within specific statutory timeframes, more specifically:

    • checking FOI mailbox daily for new requests and correspondence relating to existing requests.

    • considering and dealing appropriately with correspondence relating to existing requests, including saving it in the records management system.

    • creating electronic records of any new requests, saving requests in the records management system, and adding requests to the FOI log.

    • determining whether consultations with third parties are required and issuing associated correspondence.

    • monitoring cases where review rights may be exercised and sending out documents as required from the FOI mailbox.

    • sending out internal search minutes within the agreed time frame for documents to be provided to the Legal Services Branch.

    • preparing FOI decision minutes and letters to send to applicants, and any other associated correspondence with third parties. 

Our ideal candidates will have:

  • FOI experience and relevant experience within case management, data/privacy, policy, high-level records management, administrative decision making or the practical application of legislation in processing requests 

  • the ability to work under pressure and manage a high workload;

  • outstanding time management;

  • the ability to understand and apply legislation; and 

  • excellent attention to detail.

Requirements
Candidates who hold an Australian Government security clearance will be well-regarded.
