APS 6 Policy Officer

About the role

Allygroup is seeking highly motivated and experienced Policy Officers at the APS6 level for an initial 6-month engagement with our high-profile government agency. 

This is an amazing opportunity to work with some of the brightest minds in the government on some of the most interesting and challenging issues facing the government. Your experience and motivation will help contribute to the successful development and delivery of fresh policies to meet the challenges Australia faces. It is desirable that candidates hold legal qualifications. 

This role is available through a labour hire arrangement with the agency or a Section26 transfer. Candidates must be Canberra based and hold either an NV1 or NV2 clearance. 

Core Responsibilities:

  • undertake research and draft high-quality papers and briefings 

  • prepare quality policy advice that aligns with the strategic direction of the relevant department

  • assist in reviewing and analysing stakeholder feedback

  • establish and maintain professional relationships and consultative mechanisms with a broad range of stakeholders

  • work with the professional services accreditation, licensing and regulatory bodies to assist them to negotiate mutual recognition or similar arrangements with their overseas counterparts

To be successful you will need to have:

  • strong research and analytical skills 

  • the ability to produce high quality and timely advice 

  • highly developed written and verbal communication skills

  • the ability to build strong and constructive working relationships 

  • initiative and exercise good judgement and is competent in strategic thinking and effectively managing a consistent workload, set priorities and achieve effective and timely outcomes against deadlines
