Legal Project Manager

Allygroup is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Legal Project Manager for an initial 6-month contract with the possibility of a 6-month extension, with our high-profile Federal Government client. Candidates can be Canberra-based or interstate, must hold a baseline clearance and be available to work full-time.  

About the role

Reporting to a Principal Legal Officer in the Legislation Practice, this role is responsible for providing strategic support to the Nature Positive Reforms. The day-to-day role will involve reporting, planning and coordination. Preparation of meeting agendas, note taking, assisting with operational oversight, management of budgets and collaboration with policy teams and staff across the team will ensure the delivery of consistent, high quality and efficient advice.  

The Project Manager will have energy and resilience and a proactive approach planning and coordinating project delivery with the ability to foster enthusiasm and professionalism in others. 

In this role you will: 

  • Manage the delivery of the high-profile Nature Positive legislation reforms and provide briefings (written and verbal) and support to the project PLOs and Legal Executive to manage the project, its timeframes and budget.

  • Manage the design and implementation of strategic practices and reporting to proactively ensure effective project delivery. 

  • Identify risks to project timeframes and delivery and develop solutions to manage and mitigate these risks.

  • Liaise and engage with policy clients and other internal or external professionals as necessary to exchange views, seek advice and ensure positive outcomes.

  • Proactively seek input from other team members to ensure reporting is timely and accurate.

  • Keep team members updated on changes to strategic settings and timelines and motivate them to adapt and continue to deliver in changing circumstances.

Experience/Skills:

  • Must have experience with project management for complex high-profile policy projects, including co-ordination of input and engagement from multiple under across a few different stakeholders with different needs/perspectives.

  • Experience with complex legal or legislative project management is desirable.

  • Knowledge of/experience with Commonwealth systems and software, such as PDMS, Tech-One. 

  • Knowledge of/experience with the EPBC Act and the Nature Positive Reforms is preferred, but not necessary.

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a multi-disciplined team of lawyers and non-lawyers. 

  • Tertiary education in project or programme management is desirable
