APS6/EL1 Project Manager (Multiple Positions Available)

Allygroup is looking for experienced Project Managers to join a high-profile Australian government agency under a labour-hire arrangement for an initial 12-month term with the possibility of further extensions. 

Our client is seeking project managers to manage security infrastructure projects and provide critical advisory services to ensure property/technology projects meet their security requirements

This is an exciting opportunity to lead the project team and keep the project delivery progressing (on time and on budget) whilst protecting the integrity of the design and ensuring full compliance with security measures/regulations.

Candidates must be Canberra‑based, hold an active NV1 security clearance, be willing and eligible to obtain an NV2 security clearance, and be available for full‑time, on‑site work in our client's Canberra office.

Some of the key duties include:

  • Managing project scope, risks and stakeholder expectations/engagement to ensure integration of project activities.

  • Managing project design and documentation through the 5 project phases – Initiation/Design and Document/Delivery/HOTO/DLP.

  • Managing project variations and changes and maintaining the change control process.

  • Coordinating and preparing regular progress reports and communication with key stakeholders.

  • Following established, and where necessary, creating, project administration systems, document control and record management processes.

  • Preparing, managing, reviewing and updating project documentation including risk and communications plans in conjunction with team and project members.

  • Managing project costs through cost estimating, budgeting, monitoring and contingency management.

  • Ensuring appropriate quality standards and quality assurance requirements are met.

  • Ensuring the project schedule is maintained and regularly report progress.

  • Providing verbal updates on the project-to-project board when required.

  • Managing the risk management process, including the development of contingency plans, reviewing residual risks and escalating risks that cannot be managed at the project level.

  • Monitoring overall progress, use of resources and initiating corrective action where necessary.

  • Coordinating handover and completion activities and documents.

The required skills are:

  • Extensive experience delivering end‑to‑end projects, managing teams and resources in matrix environments.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative approach that supports high‑quality business outcomes.

  • High attention to detail across project artefacts, alongside confident budget, procurement, vendor, financial, governance and risk management within Australian government settings.

  • Skilled in organisational change and communications development.

  • Experience in managing complex concurrent projects.

  • Strong command of project management methodologies

Our ideal candidates are those who thrive in fast‑paced environments, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Successful candidates are expected to be on-site with limited WFH opportunities due to the nature of the work. Domestic and overseas travel may also be required as per the project schedule.
