EOI for Paralegals (High-profile Federal Government Agency)

Allygroup is inviting expressions of interest from law students or experienced paralegals for multiple secondment opportunities with a high-profile federal government agency. These roles offer a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in a professional legal environment, contribute to meaningful public sector work, and build lasting networks within government.

Successful candidates will be placed in a fast-paced and dynamic setting, engaging with complex legislation and administrative processes. These roles are based in Canberra, but are open to candidates across all states and territories in Australia. Flexible working arrangements may be considered depending on operational requirements.

Applicants must hold a minimum Baseline security clearance (or higher) to be considered.

Key duties may include

  • Administering and coordinating legal support functions, including financial management, reporting, database administration, file and record management, logistical support, and workflow coordination

  • Arranging and administering supplementary legal resources, including personnel, to support legal services, events, and training

  • Applying legal knowledge to assist in formal legal and administrative processes, including those involving courts, tribunals, inquiries, and government administration

  • Drafting legal and administrative correspondence and documentation to support legal officers

  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to support legal service delivery

  • Facilitating participation in legal and administrative forums

  • Assessing and directing tasks in accordance with established practices and principles

  • Evaluating workflows and office practices to identify risks and opportunities for improvement

  • Conducting legal research to support legal officers

Our ideal candidates will have

  • Strong interest in government affairs, public policy, and legislative processes

  • Excellent critical thinking and attention to detail

  • Strong legal research and writing skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism

Previous experience in a legal support role (e.g., paralegal, law clerk, legal admin) is highly desirable.
