Allygroup is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Policy Officer to support a federal government client in delivering regulatory functions under a national scheme. This role suits a senior legal or policy professional with experience in regulation, administrative decision-making, or legal policy.
This position is based in Canberra and requires a current NV1 security clearance (or higher). It is offered on a part-time basis, with a flexible schedule of one to three days per week. The initial contract term is six months, concluding on 20 December 2025, with the possibility of extension for up to two additional three-month periods.
The successful candidate will play a key role in managing workflows, addressing backlogs, and ensuring the timely and effective processing of notifications under a nationally significant regulatory scheme. They will also contribute to legal assessments, process improvement, and the development of guidance and training materials.
Key responsibilities:
triage and process incoming notifications
conduct legal and regulatory assessments
streamline workflows and address existing backlogs
document and implement operational processes
prepare and review guidance and training materials
provide input into legal policy and regulatory decision-making
support the team with ad hoc legal and regulatory tasks
Our ideal candidate will have:
legal qualifications (desirable) and/or significant experience in legal policy, regulation, or administrative decision-making
strong experience managing complex workflows or teams
the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
Previous experience in Australian Government legal or regulatory teams will be highly regarded.
