Legislative Drafter (EL1 - EL2)

Allygroup is looking for experienced legislative drafters to join a federal government legislation practice. This is an engaging and well remunerated opportunity with an initial six-month term with an option to extend.

This secondment provides a unique opportunity to support the establishment of the National Repair Market, a voluntary national scheme dedicated to enhancing and protecting biodiversity. Within this role you will be responsible for the drafting of subordinate instruments under the Nature Repair Act 2023, primarily methodology determinations (Methods) to ensure projects deliver real, evidence-based biodiversity outcomes.

The position offers the flexibility of working from your preferred location, with options for both full-time and part-time employment for the right candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drafting subordinate instruments under the Nature Repair Act 2023, with a primary focus on methodology determinations (Methods).

  • Ensuring compliance with the Biodiversity Assessment Instrument and other subordinate instruments under the Act.

  • Collaborating with policy advisors and other teams within the legal division

  • Managing and progressing multiple projects simultaneously

Key Requirements

  • Experience in drafting legislation of the Commonwealth or an Australian State or Territory.

  • Experience in Commonwealth legislation drafting is highly desirable.

  • Experience working on Commonwealth environmental laws and understanding of the nature repair scheme preferred, but not necessary.

  • Must be admitted and hold an Australian practising certificate.
