Allygroup is looking for experienced legislative drafters to join a federal government legislation practice. This is an engaging and well remunerated opportunity with an initial six-month term with an option to extend.
This secondment provides a unique opportunity to support developing drafting instructions.
The position offers the flexibility of working from your preferred location, with options for both full-time and part-time employment for the right candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop drafting instructions for legislative amendments to support updates to carbon legislation.
Translate policy recommendations from independent and statutory reviews into clear legislative proposals.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure proposed changes are practical and well-informed.
Support improvements to the integrity, transparency, and governance of the carbon credit scheme.
Ensure legislative changes align with technical and operational aspects of emissions reduction and carbon storage projects.
Prepare supporting documentation to explain and justify proposed amendments.
Key Requirements:
Experience in Commonwealth legislation development and design.
Experience in preparing drafting instructions for primary legislation, preferably for significant legislative amendment projects.
Experience taking instructions from policy areas and working collaboratively to refine and translate policy intent into drafting instructions is preferred.
Able to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team.
Knowledge of emissions accounting and climate change law preferred, but not necessary.
Admitted to practice law in Australia or the ability to hold an Australian practicing certificate preferred.
