Terry is an experienced lawyer with specific capabilities in project management, public sector M&A, property transactions, litigation management, safety incident prosecutions, fraud investigations, compliance programs, corporate governance, legal services procurement and in-house legal management.
He has extensive industry knowledge gained through senior legal leadership roles in energy, utilities, retail, FMCG, private legal practice and government enterprises. In these roles, Terry regularly advised Boards, chief executive officers and senior executives on critical legal issues, overseeing the management of legal risks associated with major projects and ensuring the delivery of legal services across all business divisions.
Terry has spent just over half of his 35 year career as a lawyer working in the public sector. Prior to joining Allygroup he held positions as General Counsel at Endeavour Energy and more recently with Ausgrid, the largest electricity distributor in Australia. At Ausgrid he advised the senior management team on all legal aspects of the privatisation transaction which delivered gross proceeds of $16 billion to the NSW Government, the largest M&A deal in Australia during 2016.
In the earlier part of his career Terry was a litigation partner in a busy private practice in western Sydney, after which he joined Franklins Supermarkets in the role of Company Solicitor. While at Franklins Terry was responsible for drafting the company’s standard supermarket lease, negotiating a range of property transactions, registering the No Frills trade mark and delivering a national program of training on the former Trade Practices Act.
Terry brings his considerable expertise in the areas of legal due diligence, regulatory compliance, dispute resolution and in-house legal management to Allygroup. He is passionate about helping organisations mitigate the legal risks associated with major transactions and complex litigation as well as improving the performance of their legal services.
